Sexually Suggestive Photos Cause Miss France Storm.

The MISS FRANCE winner of this year's (07) Miss France contest has been ordered to resign just days into her reign, after a magazine published provocative photographs taken early in her modelling career.

VALERIE BEGUE, 22, a student from the French Indian Ocean island of Reunion, returned home triumphant after her win earlier this month (Dec07).But her joy was short-lived after event organisers took exception to pictures, taken three years ago but only published last week (ends21Dec07), of her floating on a crucifix in a swimming pool and eating yogurt in way deemed lewd by contest officials.

GENEVIEVE DE FONTENAY, 75, a former model who has run the event since the 1950s, has demanded that Begue be stripped of her crown - just two weeks after claiming it.

She says, "I don't understand how she can have had the cheek to enter the competition when she knew perfectly well the ethical rules of Miss France.

"I have no desire to see her again. I certainly cannot see myself going around France escorted by a woman like that. As she is from Reunion, let her stay there!" The dramatic step has caused uproar in Begue's native Reunion, with local radio stations inundated with angry supporters of the model.Begue herself is distraught, and claims to have been "betrayed" by whoever sold the pictures to Entrevue magazine.

She tells France's Le Parisien magazine, "I was never happy with those pictures. They were a mistake that I regret bitterly. But now the wonderful year I had ahead of me is going up in smoke".

Spotlight Often Glaring for Troubled Female Celebrities

By Ruth Reader
Washington

2007 was a troubling year for several female celebrities. And the year also was marked by slow music sales, an unpredictable box office and a Hollywood writers' strike. VOA's Ruth Reader reviews the year's top entertainment news.

Four celebrities repeatedly found themselves in the spotlight in 2007, and the glare was often harsh. In the case of former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith, it was tragic. She died in February from an accidental prescription drug overdose. The reality TV star died less than a year after the death of her 20-year-old son in a drug related incident and the birth of her daughter.
Soon after Smith's death, pop star Britney Spears faced her own issues -- caught often by cameras in unflattering situations, smacked down by unwanted publicity. She checked into rehab, got into trouble with police and became entangled in a custody battled over her two sons. In spite of her personal problems, Spears still put out a comeback album, "Blackout".

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton got more attention than she wanted when a judge sentenced her to 45 days in jail for violating probation on a drunk driving charge and driving on a suspended license. "I'm definitely scared, but I'm ready to face my sentence," she said. That sentence initially was reduced to 23 days. But when jailers sprung Hilton after just three days for unspecified medical reasons and placed her under more comfortable house arrest, the court did not go along. Back to jail she went and served a 23-day sentence.

Like Hilton, actress Lindsay Lohan had legal problems and trouble dodging celebrity-hounding paparazzi. Police arrested her -- twice -- on drunk driving charges, and she also faced charges for cocaine possession. Her alcohol abuse and stints in rehab made for tabloid headlines. In November, the entertainment industry suffered a blow that will likely last into 2008. Writers went on strike for the first time in nearly 20 years. Without a settlement, reruns are already beginning to dominate American TV.

Even the music industry may be feeling the effects of the writers' strike. Without late night talk show hosts' promotion of new albums and talent, already-low music sales are bound to worsen. USA Today reports that CD sales plummeted 14 percent from last year. It says digital music sales have doubled, but combined music sales are still substantially low. Despite this, new albums are still captivating audiences. At the American Music Awards this year, Justin Timberlake won for Best Male Pop/Rock Artist and his album Futuresex/Lovesounds was awarded best album under Soul, Rhythm and Blues.

Songstress Fergie won for Best Female Pop/Rock Artist. The entertainment channel MTV reports that iTunes users downloaded her song, "Big Girls Don't Cry" more than any other this year.

On the big screen, the top grossing American film this year is "Pirates of the Caribbean at World's End." It is approaching a billion dollars in ticket sales worldwide. The latest boy wizard tale, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," has made nearly as much.

Film critics have different favorites. The Los Angeles Film Critics voted "There Will be Blood," a film roughly based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel "Oil!," as the best film of the year, while the New York Film Critics Circle named the Coen brother's crime thriller, "No Country for Old Men" the top film. It is based on Cormac McCarthy's novel by the same name.

The British historical film "Atonement" is another adaptation from a novel that is critically acclaimed. It has won nominations for seven Golden Globe awards, including best dramatic motion picture. The film is adapted from Ian McEwan's novel by the same name.

Katie Holmes Reveals Christmas Plans

It's no secret that Katie Holmes has left her young Dawson's Creek persona far behind for a life of globe-trotting with husband Tom Cruise and her 18-month-old daughter Suri. So what is the Cruise clan planning for Christmas? "My whole family and Tom's whole family will go up to Telluride [Colo.] again. We ski. We have big dinners and laugh," Katie says in a revealing interview with Parade magazine.

Katie — who stars in the upcoming film Mad Money with Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah — plans to spend a lot of time in the kitchen over the holidays. "We love cooking. My mom's stuffing is my favorite. I'm a huge fan of pie, especially pecan. I will probably cook some garlic mashed potatoes and maybe a cheesecake."

Adds Holmes, "We always make a lot of sugar cookies with decorating and sprinkles. Suri will be in the dough everywhere. Tom has shown me the greatness of extra chocolate chips. Tom's really good in the kitchen. He makes great pasta carbonara and lemon pasta."

Nude Jessica Alba preggo pics?

Jessica Alba has no intention of following in the footsteps of Demi Moore, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera and posing naked while pregnant.
Just a week after confirming that she is expecting her first child with boyfriend Cash Warren, it has come to light the 26-year-old beauty has turned down THREE offers of baring all for glossy magazine covers.
A friend says: “Jessica keeps getting phone calls from magazines who want her to pose naked when is about seven months into her pregnancy. They know it will make their magazines sell.
“She had three offers on the first day, but she doesn’t intend to take any of them. She thinks her pregnancy is a personal and private thing.”

What is this world coming to? I mean a nude preggo Jessica is better than no nudes at all. And right now, we are getting no nudes at all. This should be a criminal act. Did I mention that I hate the douchebag that gave her the sex trophy? He gets to see her nude, all the time. I get to see her nude, never. Does that sound fair?

I mean, it is Christmas time, Jessica is apparently a real scrooge. I want to hang the mistletoe this year. With my luck, Rosie O’Donnell will be the one that walks under it. Such is my pathetic life.

Celebrity Christmas Wish Lists

Don't you just hate the way no one gets you what you want for Christmas? Well, fear not young A-list junkies. We've compiled the ultimate gift list for the celebrity and fashion-obsessed, featuring only the hottest, richest, pickiest stars would choose to adorn their homes with.

So, if your best friend's got a thing about Paris' trinkets or Britney's perfumes, then look no further: your Christmas wish lists have arrived - and just in time!

BRITNEY SPEARS
Not a day goes by without Britney getting snapped clutching a pint-sized cup of her favorite
'double shot mocha-choca iced frappucino' (or some such thing) from
Starbucks.

So the obvious present for this party-loving pop star or any of her ardent supporters would be a voucher for the global coffee chain.

This may surprise you but the pop star and mum-of-two is also a closet bookworm - she was photographed recently reading a copy of C.S. Lewis' "The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe." Get her!

Fashion-wise, that might be a little trickier. We don't want to go recommending fans leave the house without their undies, or frighten neighbors with bizarre Halloween-inspired leotard costumes. But we did spot Britney wearing some pretty cool heart-shaped sunglasses recently, which fans are definitely allowed to covet.

Like so many stars, Brit also has her own range of perfumes - 'Curious' and 'Believe', by Elizabeth Arden. She loves dancing to her own track "Gimme More" when out with friends, and she is also reportedly addicted to using the sun bed - so, with that in mind, Britney fans should have plenty to choose from this Christmas.

If you love Britney, you'll love:

Britney's favorite clothes stores: Betsey Johnson, Abercrombie + Fitch, Fred
Segal, Gap, Victoria's Secret and Urban Outfitters
'Curious' and 'Believe' fragrances by Britney Spears, approximately $58
Fake Bake tanning cosmetics
Starbucks vouchers
“Gimme More” single, around $4
“The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe,” from $20
Plastic Heart Sunglasses, $30

Lindsay Lohan Is Not Endorsing Anti-Smoking Lozenges

Lindsay Lohan has denied claims she has been hired as a representative of Ariva lozenges. The star, 21, has been snapped with the sweets - an aid to help quit smoking - on numerous occasions in the last few weeks, prompting reports she has been signed up to advertise the product.

But a representative for the star has dismissed the rumours, saying: "Lindsay has not been paid to endorse Ariva. She is just a fan and is using it to help cut down her smoking as she is currently in the studio recording tracks for her third album."
